Looking back at my photos from this year and it was quite a surprise to realise how infrequently I used a studio for shoots. So here’s one of the studio shoots from March.

By this point in the year the rented Ef 85mm f/1.4L IS USM had been converted to a full-time resident in my camera bag, so it’s no surprise that it did get used quite a lot in the studio for this set of fashion / portrait images for this first shoot with Tasha. I wanted to shoot some simple clean images in monochrome, and set my camera to the monochrome picture style so that I would be able to see grayscale tones rather than colours while taking the shots. Shooting RAW means I have colour images to edit if needed too.

  • EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM
  • 1/125s, f/5.6, ISO 100

  • EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM

  • EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM
  • 1/125s, f/4, ISO 100

  • EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM
  • 1/125s, f/4, ISO 100

After a spell of fashion in monochrome we made use of the daylight flooding in to the studio, initially with flash and ambient, and then simply just the ambient light for these more relaxed informal shots.

  • EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM
  • 1/1200s, f/2, ISO 100

  • RF 28-70mm F2L USM @ 38mm
  • 1/640s, f/2, ISO 125

  • RF 28-70mm F2L USM @52mm
  • 1/640s, f/2, ISO 125

EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM and RF 28-70mm F2L USM are an ideal pair of lenses for studio shoots.

Day 2 of 12 done, see you tomorrow for some more photos.
