2020 is nearing the end and it’s been a year dominated by a word few people had heard of; Coronavirus. It is also a year where being creative and making pictures was so important.
Back in February the effects of Coronovirus where starting to result in some group workshops not having enough bookings to be economically viable, but we still had freedom to meet up and make photos as we liked. I met up with my mate JT for a day of photos, he wanted some headshots so the dining room was reconfigured to be the temporary studio for the morning. Later on we ventured out to shoot some available light shots too.
- EOS R
- EF 85mm f/1.8 USM
- 1/200s, f/8, ISO 100
The dining room was soon a sea of blue Lastolite bags. A collapsible tobacco background, Ezybox Pro medium Octa, Exybox Speed Lite 2 and a Halo compact reflector just in front and below JT’s chin.
- EOS R
- EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
- 1/320s, f/4, ISO 400
After the indoor shots, we went to the local woodlands for some more natural environment shots. Remarkably just one Lastolite accessory travelled with us, the Halo Compact Diffuser and a Nano Light Stand. This combination proving to be perfect for moderating the harsh sunlight, making it a smooth light on JT’s face.
Something was obviously going wrong, it’s day #2 and there’s only been one shot lit with Speedlite so far… but don’t worry I haven’t stopped using my usual lights there’s more to come, see you tomorrow.
