Wow 2019 sure flew by, and I pressed the shutter button more than ever. So let me share a favourite picture or pictures as we head in to 2020.
Day #12
- EOS 5D Mark IV
- EF 135mm f/2L USM
- 1/320s, f/2.2, ISO 100
Back in the summer – remember warm days and sunshine – I worked with a new model Heather on a location shoot that is actually quite close to home. In the pre-shoot planning we’d agreed on a casual summer theme, so I hoped the weather would play along too. I’d taken the EOS 5D Mark IV for a change, and a small selection of lighter lenses so we could walk and grab few photos as we did.
Whilst walking around Heather spotted the chair that had been cut in to the stump of a felled tree and suggested we use it as a shoot location. Rather glad she did as it made a great spot for photos. This is all natural light, not even a reflector.

- EF 135mm f/2L USM
- 1/800s, f/2.8, ISO 160
Still more wandering in the longer grasses resulted in this gentle peaceful image, the EF 135mm f/2L USM remanding me I really do have to use it much more often.
- EOS 5D Mark IV
- EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
- 1/640s, f/4, ISO 100
With a change of outfit, I asked Heather to walk slowly back and forth along this footpath and took a series of shots as she did. Adding a bit of movement and getting your model to walk can often help with more natural shots. Heather makes hats, and the pink straw boater is one she’d made and it fitted in well with the shoot too.
So that’s it 12-days of photos complete… and there’s a clear message in here somewhere; I appear to have gone mostly mirrorless in 2019 and I’ll have some more to say about that in the coming days.
Just quick note… I’m struggling to narrow down my selection of pictures to just a single one for each day 🙂
