Wow 2019 sure flew by, and I pressed the shutter button more than ever. So let me share a favourite picture or pictures as we head in to 2020.
Day #10
- EOS R
- EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
- 1/125s, f/9, ISO 100
- Studio flash + Lightblaster
It’s the 10th day, and I’m looking to my October Halloween photos for a few darker shots. A few years back I worked with Inka Blink on a shoot in Oxford, and seeing some of her posts on Instagram earlier in October started a discussion about a Halloween themed shoot, so that’s what we did. It was truly a creative effort and she brought many props – scary dolls and more – plus had great selection of outfits too. For the first shot above I used a combination of studio softbox, and a Lightblaster with a gobo to create the pattern on the background. From here on in, it just got more dark…

- Studio flash + Speedlite
This shot has had a lot of grain added in post, I wanted something that looked beyond ISO 12,800 despite the photo being shot at ISO 100. To me it’s the most scary of the set, partly due to the mask hiding Inka Blink’s face. You see that orange highlight on her left shoulder, and the lower part of the mask? That is a Speedlite with orange gel to give a hint of something on the unlit side of the frame. Main light is a 90cm square softbox angled down and avoiding too much light on the background.

- EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM
- 1/160s, f/5.6, ISO 100
- Studio flash
Same space, but a change of outfit and a move to the chequered floor as a background and me looking down to Inka Blink.

- EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM
- 1/160s, f/8, ISO 100
- Studio flash
Staying with the harlequin outfit, but adding in a few dolls and a change of shooting space we created this shot above. It’s been given quite a blue tone in Lightroom.
Also in October I worked with Becky on this outdoor shoot in a tunnel under the motorway. The shots from that were the content for my Halloween post a few months back.
Just quick note… I’m struggling to narrow down my selection of pictures to just a single one for each day 🙂
