Wow 2019 sure flew by, and I pressed the shutter button more than ever. So let me share a favourite picture or pictures as we finish 2019 and head in to 2020.

Day #3

Portraits on location

  • EOS R
  • EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM
  • 1/250s, f/5, ISO 200

I first met Saffron at a model / photographer event in London and was pleased when we managed to arrange a second shoot out in the Hampshire countryside. I was told that Saffron loves cows, so the local cows were asked to stand in place while Saffron walked amongst the wild flowers. All natural light for this fabulous young lady, we even had the odd glimmer of sunshine, plus a drop of rain on this shoot.

monochrome portrait

  • EOS R
  • EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM
  • 1/160s, f/2.8, ISO 500

During a brief shower we took shelter under a small group of trees. Just because it’s raining you don’t need to put the camera away. I set to work with the macro lens, it doubles up pretty well for portraits and looks great wide open.

Saffron in the river

  • EOS R
  • EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM
  • 1/800s, f/4, ISO 200

Saffron suggested that a few shots at the end of the shoot should be in the water of the small river that flows through this location. Fortunately she went in for a paddle not me 🙂 I’ve found it quite amazing how much you can pull out of the cloud detail in post processing.

Myself and Saffron are planning a location portrait workshop day in the spring, keep an eye on my website for more information soon.

Just quick note… I’m struggling to narrow down my selection of pictures to just a single one for each day 🙂
