Over the course of 2016 I’ve taken plenty of photos that have been fun, challenging or fortunate. For each of the 12 days (of Christmas) I’m sharing one of my favourite pictures from 2016.

#5 – Katrina Darling

I got a call from a very nice man asking me if I would be interested in photographing with an EOS-1D X Mark II in London and some vintage buses one summer evening. It turned out to be the hottest night/day of the year. This was taken at five to midnight as we were trying out the high ISO capabilities of the EOS-1D X Mark II. Katrina was one of the models along for the “bus ride”. She’s lit with the headlights of some cars crossing the Waterloo Bridge. Sure if you zoom in there’s some noise, but to take the picture it was so dark I couldn’t see if she was in focus in the viewfinder. However the EOS-1D X Mark II could see to focus… all night.

Camera settings

  • EOS-1D X Mark II
  • EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens
  • 1/200s, f/2.2, ISO 16,000
  • Speedlite flash

See you tomorrow for another picture…
