Over the course of 2016 I’ve taken plenty of photos that have been fun, challenging or fortunate. For each of the 12 days (of Christmas) I’m sharing one of my favourite pictures from 2016.

#4 – Talisha

I photographed awesome dancer Talisha as part of a test shoot with the 50MP EOS 5DS R. I was simply amazed at the detail the camera captured, but also with the texture of Talisha’s skin – just A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. It also reaffirmed my view that my old EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is probably the best value lens in the Canon range; optically it can certainly live with every EOS camera it’s been put on from film to the latest digital models.

Lighting with a few Speedlites, and the Lastolite Hotrod Stripbox as the main light, it’s only just out of the frame on the camera left.

Camera settings

  • EOS 5DS R
  • EF 85mm f/1.8 USM lens
  • 1/200s, f/5.6, ISO 100
  • Speedlite flash

See you tomorrow for another picture…
