Over the course of 2016 I’ve taken plenty of photos that have been fun, challenging or fortunate. For each of the 12 days (of Christmas) I’m sharing one of my favourite pictures from 2016.

#2 – The strip box

This picture was taken whilst I was leading a studio lighting workshop and was using a strip box as the only light. Unusually I had rotated the strip box so that is was horizontal. The result it a wide light with light little height. The light wraps around the face, but rapidly falls off above and below the face. The black background is a brick wall.

Camera settings

  • EOS 7D Mark II
  • EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens
  • 1/200s, f/4, ISO 100
  • Studio flash

See you tomorrow for another picture…
