Canon has issued a firmware update for the recently launched EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens to enhance the effect of the Image Stabilizer when used with the EOS 5D Mark IV.
EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM firmware update 1.0.4
According to Canon, firmware 1.0.4 enhances the effects of image stabilization when using the EF24-105mm F4L IS II USM with the EOS 5D Mark IV at a shutter speed between 1/100 sec. and 1/160 sec.
Does your lens need the firmware update 1.0.4 ?
If you have an EOS 5D Mark IV and the new EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens then you are likely to need the update. Some lenses have already been updated to 1.0.4 at the factory and I would assume those are now the shipping ones. It is important to check your lens serial number. Lenses whose third digit in the serial number is “0”, e.g. (xx0xxxxxxx), need the update. The lens serial number is on the lens itself and is also displayed if you go to the lens micro-focus adjustment settings.
To check the firmware version in your lens, fit the lens to the EOS 5D Mark IV, turn the mode dial to P, and press the camera’s MENU button. Navigate to the SETUP4 menu and select the firmware ver. entry. The camera and lens firmware versions will be displayed. If your lens is already 1.0.4 then no problems. If you have 1.0.3 then it’s worth applying the update.
Don’t forget to make sure your camera firmware is also up to date, the latest version is listed here.
