Canon unveils white EOS 100D & EF-S 18-55mm IS STM

I had to check the date and initially it looked like April 16 could be April 1 with a mistyped 6 appended, but no, Canon has released the EOS 100D white edition and a matching white EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens.

EOS 100D & EF-S 18-55 IS STM WHITE

– would you buy it, what other colour would you like your camera?

To be honest I’m a little surprised at this one, a red camera I can imagine, a silver one even – there’s precedent for that with the EOS 300D & EOS 350D at least – but white? Still it’s another way to sell a “Canon white lens” 🙂

On a more serious note this camera will look out of place with anything but white lenses. Canon does have a range of white lenses but they are not commonly found attached to an EOS 100D; cost, size and weight of L-series lenses tending to make them less attractive to purchasers of the EOS 100D. So I’m left thinking if this is a dead-end camera; do you buy a white SLR for it’s interchangeable lens feature then find that there’s only one lens that matches the colour so in effect you’ve bought a camera for which there is only one perfectly matched lens.

I think it will be interesting to see how prices of the white edition hold up vs the black EOS 100D with the passage of time.
