Digital Photo Professional (DPP) 3.13.0
Canon’s Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software has reached version 3.13.0, so what’s new besides the support for the EOS 700D & EOS 100D cameras? OF course with the launch of the EOS 70D there’s also got to be some further update coming soon too.
What’s new in Digital Photo Professional 3.13.0?
- As shot settings are easier to identify for Picture Style and white balance
- Digital Lens Optimiser works with many more lenses
“As shot” settings made simpler to identify
A noticeable change to digital photo professional is to the appearance of the drop down selections for white balance and Picture Style. Digital Photo Professional used to use “As shot” for the camera values, though didn’t indicate what the camera settings were. The new display shows the camera setting with a camera icon next to it at the top of the list.
On thing I have found is that this can give rise to some unexpected behaviour with the Picture Style and the adjustments of the highlights, shadows, contrast, tone, saturation and sharpening. This is due to the way the software treats the camera set picture style as a different style to the same named one in the list.
I set digital photo professional preferences to Retain the settings of each Picture Style. Now the camera camera set Standard picture style can be edited either on the histogram or the sliders for highlights, shadows, contrast, tone, saturation and sharpening. However if you go to the Picture Style menu and change the Picture Style to Standard in the list then it is treated as another different Picture Style with different settings.
Many more lenses work with Digital Lens Optimiser (DLO)
When I wrote about the Digital Lens Optimiser (DLO) feature on here and for Canon Professional Network in August 2012 one of the limits was the range of lenses it was usable with, some 29 models at the time. That list has been significantly expanded with Digital Photo Professional now 3.13.0 supporting the 62 lenses listed below.
The lenses available in digital photo professional for the DLO feature need to be downloaded from Canon, they are not part of DPP natively. Each lens profile is around 25MB in size to download.

Free Digital Photo Professional updates
Canon provides updates for DPP for free to all EOS camera customers. Just visit the support pages at the local Canon website and you will find it. While you are there it is also a good idea to get the updated EOS Utility program too.Download DPP 3.13.0 for Mac OS-X Download DPP 3.13.0 for Windows
Digital Photo Professional & EOS Utility training
Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility are included with each and every EOS camera. Most owners never experience the benefits in terms of raw image picture quality or tethered shooting or remote control that these really useful applications bring. I’m a specialist teacher and trainer, I do more demonstrations of these applications for Canon than Canon staff probably do!
I’ve also written plenty of articles on the blog about the Canon software…
