One in four photographers…

As April dawns it’s time to reflect on some photography statistics and facts. Some of these are real facts I have captured over many years in the industry, some are just common sense, but here goes…

95% of EOS camera owners never install their software

It’s true; at many events where I have been presenting for Canon, I have asked to see how many of the audience has installed the Canon software? Often this is fun right after a software demonstration. Over the years the figure has changed from none to a few. I must be doing something right 🙂

I can tell you where your software CD is!

Go check the attic, garage or loft, there you will find the camera box. In the box there will be a few bits of plastic and a great big bundle of paper wrapped in shrink wrap, this is the manual kit. In amongst that bundle of paper is the CD you need.

100% of photographers need more camera bags

Go on, look around and see how many bags you have? I counted until I ran out of fingers too!

What’s more, this is endemic to photography, if you start to use off-camera flash you always need another Speedlite, then you also need another light stand, and that means another light-stand bag too!

The correct answer to this, is that the number of bags you needs is N + 1, where N is the number you already have.

You will always pick up the flat battery

There are two batteries on the desk, one is charged the other is empty. 100% of the time the first one you pick up is the empty one.

Turn the battery cover round to reveal different colours through the battery shaped cutout

Rotate the battery cover to reveal different colours for charged or empty through the battery shape

Did you know that the covers on many Canon batteries can be fitted in different orientations to indicate full or empty?

Your EOS 5D Mark III will shoot 4K video

Following on from last years revelation of the firmware update to increase the EOS 5D Mark III to 40MP, I’ve heard that the firmware that is “coming in April” will add 4K video recording too… 🙂

Happy April Fools Day 🙂
