Canon Inc in Japan has posted it’s financial results for 2010 and it’s predictions for 2011. Headlines for the financial world is the near one-fifth rise in profit for 2011, with significant contribution to that from the EOS digital SLR cameras and the IXUS/IXY camera line-ups.
Key products in Canon consumer business unit were the EOS digital SLR cameras with the EOS 500D, EOS 550D, EOS 60D, EOS 7D and EOS 5D Mark II all being singled out with sales volume increases. This is great news, more people that are enjoying photography and hopefully for me more people wanting to be trained how to make best use their new cameras.
In the details of the results information on the company website there’s an interesting statement that they “aim to strengthen, among other areas, digital SLR movie capabilities“. Whilst this is no surprise to photographers who have seen many digital EOS cameras with ever increasing movie making functionality, it’s the only detail that is specifically mentioned in the results. I wonder if we will ever see a Canon loupe type viewfinder or follow focus unit?
