Over the course of 2016 I’ve taken plenty of photos that have been fun, challenging or fortunate. For each of the 12 days (of Christmas) I’m sharing one of my favourite pictures from 2016.
#12 – Pomegranate Wolf
I had photographed Pomegranate Wolf to create images that could show the effects of the EOS 5D Mark IV dual pixel RAW capabilities. The plan was to take some natural light photos with wide aperture lenses to create portraits with shallow depth of field and interesting bokeh.
I had driven past this gateway on the road to the shoot and thought it might be worth stopping by with Zane (Pomegranate Wolf). Sure enough I took two pictures just as I got out of the car to check the background blur, then asked Zane to stand in place for the first shot, this is it! Completely natural unposed and I love the picture. Her choice of outfit works and I love the intensity of her expression.
- EOS 5D Mark IV
- EF 135mm f/2L USM lens
- 1/250s, f/2.5, ISO 200
12 pictures in 12 days
So that’s my twelve pictures from 2016. I clearly loved using Speedlite flash and prime lenses throughout the year, maybe that is what caused me to switch the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM to the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM – could have been a good cashback deal too!
I have been “collecting” plenty of Lastolite blue bags over the year as my lighting kit continues to evolve. I love the flexibility of the Ezybox II range as I can use Speedlite flash or studio flash in the same modifier.
The EOS 5D Mark IV I was expecting in March 2016, but it took all the way until September before it was finally mine, I’m just hoping that it will also be a current model for four plus years while I spread the cost.
Lighting workshops for 2017
I will be running some of my own workshops in 2017, I hope to see you there. Newsletter subscribers get to hear when and were these workshops happen before they appear anywhere else. Just saying 🙂
