On Friday I visited the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers (SWPP) show in Hammersmith where I got to have a look over the new PowerShot G1 X which Canon had placed right next to the other X, the EOS-1D X on their booth.
From the brief hands-on I can say that it feels great in the hand, better than previous G-series cameras and if anything it’s made me want it even more. Canon staff confirmed that it will work with the wireless Canon flash system as I had expected (hoped) so all we do now is wait, since it’s not allowed to see the images yet from the pre-production cameras.
One other highlight of the show for me was seeing Bjorn Thomassen on the Flash Centre booth. Bjorn made a presentation about the possibilities of lighting control with just one modifier. The ideas presented were not new, but one point about using the ‘other edge’ of the light struck me as something I’d not really considered before. I’m working on some shoots in the coming weeks and will shoot images to illustrate the point for a future post on here.
Working with David Newton [@photopositive] we shot some video of the day at the show, you will see that on the EOS Network blog shortly.
