Here it’s time to share a few images from the recent #CurryClub studio shoot. The theme for the day was film, and there was a stipulation that film should be shot, so with my roll of Ilford XP2 loaded in the EOS 300 and some of Sandisk’s finest in the EOS 7D ‘just in case’ it was off to Gareth Davies Studio in Wokingham [link].
Our models for the day were Lou, Rhianne and Elan who all generously gave us a great range of looks to shoot. In the great big studio expanse simple props like bits of fabric, off-cuts of lace, a skull shaped candle (ehhh?), the reception area and a leather look cube all helped to give some variety in shots for each of the models and #CurryClub members. As the shoot with the models neared it’s end then the #CurryClub members decided to attempt some group portraiture with a camera on a tripod and a self-timer, as you can see at the top of the post.
We even used the studio reception area for some trials to see if blue lights through the rippled glass blocks would create a water reflection type look on the walls, it does. Though with the application of some more thought it’s of course possible to put the lights in reception and put the ‘water look’ pattern on a wall or background in the studio. Whilst being in the reception I used the white walls and fired fire a flash up the wall behind Rhianne blowing out the background and trying to induce some flare in my 85mm lens. Removing the lens hood also helped with creating the required flare too. Check out the shots of Rhianne in the gallery below.
No film was harmed making this picture!
So to the film, there was some ‘creative interpretation’ of the phrase everybody’s got to shoot a roll of film. Some rolls were placed on the floor and had their picture taken on an iPhone, some of us even took some shots on film. I have still not finised the roll of film so can’t show my shots from the XP2 as yet. Also have you seen the price of processing films these days… no surprise digital is popular!
Here’s a selection of my shots from the day, all have seen a little photoshop and one or two quite a lot of photoshop.
The #CurryClub is looking for it’s next theme for the next shoot, got any ideas that this group of photographers can be tasked to shoot? Put something in the comments please.

Ringflash for a next theme

I am already looking forward to the next one!
All the best,
